Eyelid Surgery Look as awake and bright as you feel
What is blepharoplasty?
Excess skin, fat and muscle in the upper and lower eyelids can contribute to an appearance marked by exhaustion and even grumpiness. Sagging, droopy or puffy eyelids may even cause a person to look much older than their actual years. Impaired vision is also a common complaint among older patients. A blepharoplasty, more commonly referred to as an eyelid lift or eyelid surgery, can restore youthfulness and a well-rested expression to the eyes, as well as a clear line of sight.
Who can get a blepharoplasty?
A good candidate for the procedure is in good health, both mentally and physically, and has realistic expectations for improvement. Clients of all ages and genders undergo eyelid surgery, although most are over 35. Blepharoplasty cannot correct crow's feet or sinking eyebrows; however, your doctor may be able to perform the procedure in conjunction with additional facial treatments such as a brow lift, injectables or facial fat transfer for a more comprehensive age-reversing makeover.

Setting up an initial consultation
As a first step, Dr. Lahijani will meet with you to determine if you are a good candidate for blepharoplasty. He will review your medical history, enquire about any preexisting eye conditions, order tests if necessary, and answer any questions you may have on your mind. Conditions such as glaucoma, hypothyroidism, Graves' Disease, tear deficiency, diabetes or high blood pressure may need to be addressed before your blepharoplasty can move forward. As you will be able to see from Dr. Lahijani's before and after photo library, he is always careful to pursue a conservative approach that avoids unnecessary tightness. Results are natural and holistic, blended with the rest of the facial features.
What can I expect from surgery?
Eyelid surgery takes anywhere from 1-3 hours and is performed under local anesthesia, which means you will be awake, but the eye area is completed numb. Incisions are made in the crease of the upper eyelids, or in the lash lines of the lower lids, effectively hiding any future scars. Through these small openings, Dr. Lahijani will remove excess fat, muscle and skin, while tightening the eye's outer regions. When all is complete, incisions are closed with micro sutures. When indicated, blepharoplasty may be combined with facial fat transfer or a brow lift for a more complete upper facial transformation.
Blepharoplasty recovery
Patients are encouraged to keep the head slightly elevated on top of pillows for the first week, preferably sleeping on their backs. Ice packs or cold compresses can be placed over the eyes to ease discomfort. Although post-operative pain is usually minimal, the doctor can prescribe medication if Tylenol does not offer adequate relief.
Stiches will be removed within 5 days and makeup can be worn to mask any minor bruising or discoloration around the eyes. Most clients find they can return to work within 7-10 days. Blepharoplasty results will vary from patient to patient, but the majority will find their outcome is most visible at 2-3 months after all swelling has resolved.
