Breast Augmentation Breast augmentation for a fuller, more feminine profile

How do I choose the best breast augmentation surgeon?

While breast augmentation surgery is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures worldwide, it is prudent to choose a doctor you truly connect with, as honest, straightforward communication is the best guarantee you will achieve the look you want. For almost a decade, Dr. Lahijani has consistently performed thousands of successful breast surgeries in Beverly Hills, Valencia and Palmdale. He is chosen for his considerate, approachable demeanor, listening ability and commitment to unique, patient-centric outcomes rather than a pedestrian one-implant-fits-all mentality.

Types of implants

  • Breast implants - come in a wide variety of shapes, textures and sizes and are customized to your frame, lifestyle and wishes. Choosing the right implant can be explored in depth during your consultation with the doctor.
  • Saline - Saline implants are typically filled after they are inserted in the chest capsules, affording the surgeon smaller incisions. Saline implants may be more appropriate in cases where breast symmetry is being corrected, and where an extra large breast size is requested. Although they tend to feel less authentic, saline implants are a more cost-effective option for many clients.
  • Silicone - Less rippling, wrinkling and migration are some advantages of the silicone implant, along with a more realistic feel and appearance. The negatives include their higher price tag, larger incisions, and a higher incidence of complications.
  • Gummy Bear - With their tear-shaped design and authentic feel, Gummy Bear implants are quite natural and are considered a leap forward in breast implant engineering. Their firm silicone gel-based interiors are "form-stable" and have a low incidence of rupturing.

Incision sites

  • Inframammary - In this case, the incision is placed in the crease where the breast meets the chest, also known as the inframammary fold. This is typically the best choice when inserting silicone gel breast implants.
  • Periareolar - Here the incision is hidden in the darkly pigmented border of the areola complex, resulting in less visible scarring. This technique may favor surgery that includes a breast lift. A periareolar incision affords the surgeon the most control and precision in placing the implant, but may present a risk to women who wish to breastfeed in the future.
  • Transaxillary - During this technique, the breast implants are inserted through inconspicuous incisions placed at the armpits. An endoscope may be used to increase the surgeon's accuracy.
  • Transumbilical (TUBA) - With TUBA, a small incision at the navel is used to create access to the breast area through a tunnel, often navigated with an endoscope. This process ensures almost no scarring; however, in a few instances it can present difficulties with breast symmetry.

Implant placement

Implants can be placed either beneath the pec muscles (submuscular), or above the pecs and beneath the breast glands (subglandular). Most doctors agree that a submuscular placement tends to offer certain benefits, including a reduction in capsular contracture rates, better support for the implant, and a more natural implant appearance. However, the placement chosen by the doctor will depend on a number of factors, all of which can be discussed in detail during your private consultation.

Recovery from breast augmentation surgery

With any major surgery, minor discomfort, swelling, bruising and fatigue is to be expected. Dr. Lahijani will furnish you with pain medications, ointments, creams and a support bra, and will provide a comprehensive written recovery plan detailing your care. For the first few weeks, you are encouraged to abstain from household chores and activities that involve pressure on the chest, bending or lifting. Although it can be hard to slow down in our accomplishment-driven culture, it is best to take the appropriate amount of time to heal rather than compromise the results of your surgery.

Schedule a Consultation

With four convenient office suites to choose from in Beverly Hills, Palmdale, Upland and Valencia, clients seeking rejuvenation can find the perfect location to suit their busy lifestyle. During your consultation, Dr. Lahijani will examine you, take down your medical history, review before and after photos, and create a personalized treatment plan customized to your body. If you are looking for a full body contouring makeover, the doctor can also give you information about additional procedures at this time, as one major benefit of combining treatments is less overall downtime for the patient.
